Wandering Barefoot: Food & Tales
  1. Boodle-licious at Captain A’s

*Facepalm* Sorry for the corny title.

BUT there is nothing corny about food that is swak to the budget!

Captain A’s the first restaurant in Cebu (or at least that I know of) who introduced a creative way of serving family/barkada meals has revamped their boodle fight meal offers. The boodle fight concept of serving meals is not new in the Philippines, in fact it is a common practice that started out in the military academy as a term used for “eating combat” or “attack the food” (something we all love to do!)

The boodle fight is a symbolism of equality and fraternity and is seen as a celebratory meal for a successful event. When Captain A’s opened a few years ago, the boodle fight concept was loved and raved about by those who wanted good and affordable meals for barkada, colleagues and family get togethers.

I was lucky to be invited to a feast together with the members of the media and other bloggers, a lunch featuring the new offerings of Captain A’s for the boodle fight meals.

I sat and met Angeli of Foodiecraft.com and had a taste of Captain A’s D’ Original Boodle Fight Meal (Php 1,240.00) which had Sardine Rice (yummy!), plain rice, Chicken and Pork adobo served in a pot, Grilled squid and prawns, Ensaladang Talong, Deep Fried Crabs, Tuna and Crab meat sisig, Grilled tuna belly and salted egg with tomato and onions.  According to our host Verarose, Marketing and Promotions Manager of Captain A’s the D’ Original was named such because the meals included are the staples in the usual military boodle fight.

During the event, I brought along the boys of the executive area who got to try out Captain A’s for the first time. The restaurant got positive reviews from my three officemates.

The atmosphere was fun, hopping from one table to the other trying out the different dishes served in other variants of the boodle fight meal.

With Ed, Reymond, Doyzkie of Iluvcebu.com and Angeli of Foodiecraft.com

The iluvcebu brothers Ed, Raymund and Doyzkie were served the Sinulog Feast Boodle (Php 1,175.00) which had Puso (hanging rice), plain rice, half a kilo lechon and chicken inasal, Chorizo Bbq, Danggit, Hipon with Gata, Nilarang Soup, Fresh tomatos and Calamansi. By the choice of food, you’d know the Sinulog Feast is all about Cebu’s best.

Babeforfood.com’s Justine was also there and enjoyed her Birthday Boodle (Php 1, 265.00). The boodle comes with meals that are usually served during birthday celebrations like Rice, Lumpia Shanghai, Pork BBQ, Chicken BBQ, Grilled Prawns, Grilled Tilapia, Sinugbang Pusit, Sauteed Kangong with Garlic Clams in Com with Malunggay and never to forget the “pampahaba ng buhay” Pancit Canton.

The Battle of Mactan (Php 1,080.00) which I have already tried before with my family, consists of seafood delights like Grilled Shrimps, Grilled Tilapia, Kinilaw na Tangigue, Beef Kare-Kare, Ensaladang Mangga with Bagoong, Salted Egg with Tomato and Chicken BBQ matched with a generous serving of Bagoong and Plain Rice.

Another boodle favorite is their Sinugba Festival (Php 1,175.00) which composes of grill favorites like Inihaw na Pork Belly, Inihaw na Manok, Inihaw na Pusit, Inihaw na Okra, Inihaw na Talong, Ampalaya with Dilis, Inihaw na Bangus, Baked Scallops, Mongo Soup and Garlic and Plain Rice.

The Loakan Fiesta (Php 1,080.00) boodle got its name from where the Philippine Military Academy is located in Loakan, Baguio. This boodle consists of  Grilled Squid, Grilled Pork Belly, Sinigang na Bangus, Steamed Crabs, Grilled Clams, Nilasing na Hipon, Pinakbet and Ensaladang Labanos with Dilis. Of course this comes with Java and Plain Rice.

And for those who just can’t get enough of Crabs, then Crab Temptation is the right choice for you. At  Php 1,499.00 devour into  a sumptuous array of steamed crabs that will surely delight your tummy.

What’s really great about Captain A’s boodle fight meals is that all meals come with unlimited plain rice, one round of 5 glasses of Iced Tea and a platter of fresh fruits.

    NOW TOP THAT OUT!

Preparation might take a bit long so its best if you call earlier or come when your tummy is not grumbling yet. Captain A’s transforms into a hangout place after where you can grab a drink and chill with friends.

Captain A’s is located at the ground level of Skyrise 3 IT Park, Salinas Drive Lahug.
